Phew! Finished!! So happy on how this turned out. This was my first time ever using AutoDesk SketchBook. I purchased the program during black friday, so I got a good deal on it.
Definitely takes some getting used to it, but over all I think it was a fairly good program. I don't know If I'll be using it in the future, but I was happy to experiment with it and try something new.
As the footer of the canvas indicates, this was for a "contest" in ADSB's monthly challenge of Color as Emotion. DestinyBlue was asked to "judge" and come up with the theme for this month. Her pieces are amazing and I felt inspired by her with this challenge.
As a person who loves animals and pets, I seem to always do something with dogs...This piece is also personal. I grew up with a beagle named Honey and she was the best dog. She died when I was around 9 from arthritis(we had to put her down ). I have great memories of her. So I drew myself as my current self instead of a younger girl when I lost her. It's kind of a moment as I'm still holding on to her and I will never let her go, even though all I have are memories.
As for the "Color as Emotion" part: I went with a warm color scale as this is suppose to be a heartwarming scene(not sad). A trusting and harmonic feel as we share a bond even beyond the grave... The background is suppose to be an outside look. We played outside a lot and plus green can be a calming and nurturing color. There is a sense of understanding too... Also, I kept the sketch outline because I thought it gave it a playful, fun kind of look but yet a serious tone to it...
Also, as a side note: the collar has symbols on it - the symbol of harmony and the Kokopelli. I love symbolism like that! If you visit here you can read(or see) more about the Indian culture with these symbols. Although, that collar was not actually her's, I made is up. I don't really remember what her's did look like, but I do have her old dog tag.
